Font file formats

It took a lot of googling to figure everything out on my own. There are currently 5 industry standard font file formats. Each of these formats serve different purposes and have unique features. TTF was actually a joint venture between Microsoft and Adobe.

Each of these is displayed with different fonts if configured. Ever wondered how does the operating system to know different files? Or how the applications installed on your computer list different font types for your selection? Like TTC, it can handle multiple fonts within a single file. Suitcases come in resource—fork and data—fork formats. The resource-fork version was the original suitcase format.
