I would recommend first of all I think the primus IQ is outdated and the minimum should be a Prodigy P2 because I think it's a better controller. Mine is a Prodigy red display, similar to the primus IQ but "smaller" form factor and you can only get the better P2 now.
Below is a picture of where I put mine. The upside is it also fits perfectly in this location without ANY modification. Simply take off the trim piece, take off the plastic pocket, slide the controller into the space, and put the screw into each side of the brake controller that would have been used to mount it to the mount. This will use the natural outward pressure on the controller to push the screws against the backside of the trim and it won't come out.
No glue and no cutting needed. There is one issue with putting it here It is easily reached in this location and I also don't wack the thing with my knee when I get in. Win Win for me. Last edited: Jan 17, Thx for info kparrow. So, did u put screws in side of controller and then push it into space? Sorry it took so long. Stormtrooper81 and Pudge like this. Mine is mounted under the traction control button and it does feel like it can be in the way at times, kinda annoying.
Definitely like kparrow's install much more. Assuming the controller will fit. Twinky , Jan 22, Thx kparrow! I like the way that looks and as I was driving yesterday and was teaching different spots the brake controller could go.
Do you use a plastic tool? Any advice? Thanks again!!! Foxhollowky , Jan 22, Jack Burton , Jan 22, I was still scratching my head on that one.
Quick wiring question - did you use a solder gun to connect extra wire? Post Reply. I just finished installing a brake controller on my It was simple, but since the instructions were not specific to any vehicle, this post might be helpful if you are about to install a controller.
I bought a Tekonsha P3 and I also bought a wiring harness from etrailer. They shipped both to me via 2 day UPS for just 8. I don't especially care for the shiny cheap screws. It would be sharper if it came with black panhead screws so it blended in better. But I leave tomorrow with a trailer and am glad I was able to get it up and running. This part of the dash just pops out and it's a whole lot easier than unbolting the whole dash.
I decided this was the most practical place to put the controller. The most challenging part was figuring out how to tighten this screw. All Done! Took about an hour. ESP makes a kit for the P2s and P3s. FirstGenTundra , Apr 7, Would love to see pictures of the ESP after install! TundraDan , Apr 14, FirstGenTundra , Apr 15, My trailer is also a and when I took both to the dealerships I was able to confirm there is an issue with the integrated brake controller and that it is an emerging issue.
Considering this is a piece of safety equipment that makes it unsafe to tow without it I have escalated my issue, but so far have no resolution. I will go into more details later with specifics about the ongoing saga with dealership, regional, and corporate communications I have had on this and how I am proceeding to push for a legitimate fix for this defect rather than a non factory workaround, but I wanted to ask here if anyone else has experience trailer disconnect issues with your OR Tundra that came equipped with the integrated brake controller?
Any insights, thoughts, experiences, or a shoulder to cry on would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris. Bistrostyle , Nov 14, Welcome to the forum. I too have experienced the disconnect error flash but for me it was a connection issue on the trailer ground end. However, my greatest complaint with the factory brake controller was that it in its early stages more so , never put out enough power to safely operate the trailer brakes.
It was a know issue and Toyota finally releases a service bulletin to address the issue. Bistrostyle [OP] likes this. Get this kit and be done. This is what I did. You'll need another part as well, I'll get a link for it. Here is the other part. I went with an aftermarket setup on my previous 16' tundra, but I am holding out for a Factory Fix this time. I am glad there are working options for this problem, but it still rests solely on Toyota to "Fix" this issue for the many loyal customers that rely on their reliability that we have come to expect from them.
I'm happy to report though, no issues with mine yet, I like it a lot. I've had it about 3. Not that the Tekonsha wasn't a great brake controller, but I'm really liking having it integrated. PA , Nov 15, Bistrostyle [OP] and ldale like this. I'm not familiar with the new IBC. Doesn't it have the ability to manually increase or decrease voltage to the trailer brakes? My controller is an aftermarket that came with the truck. I adjust it frequently depending on driving conditions, traffic, etc In slower traffic I turn it down so it doesn't grab.
If I plan to be in faster traffic, or rain, or snow, I turn it up a little bit at a time and do a few test brakes. Rob , Nov 24, What year is your truck? As of now Toyot does not have a fix for the or Tundra and the issue is intermittent with various trailers but the issue is on the truck side. I have escalated this to regional and corporate and have confirmation of this is writing.
Do you get a disconnect warning? Does the little green trailer light come in showing you have a trailer connected? Have you increased the gain and does that change the behavior? Bistrostyle , Nov 24, No disconnect issues. It shows the trailer.
